Please reconsider and include your setup script when you get time, I wouldn't get too bothered about the details though -  if yours works, just include it next rebuild.  That's the best way to test it anyway, and the benefits of your work will then reach more people.

Many newbies won't know how/what to do to edit ld.so.conf, and it's tedious editing files every time one uses an extension, and that is a useful extension that will get loaded every boot for a lot of people.

We already showed nothing seems break in the base, so I don't think there is much in the way of environmental differences to  consider at this stage.

No need to risk any further quality time with the family though.

Your efforts are appreciated Jason.

WDef,
Thanks.  I had posted the rough draft of what I was going to submit so there could be peer review.  It is suggestions for improvement, and critique, helps make for a better final product.  I am not a good script person, and I have learned from the suggestions made in this thread.  I knew there would be at least a few things that could be improved upon in my version of the script.   I have always found the DSL forum a friendly place, my home away from home.  Knowing this, I shouldn't such have a thin skin at times.  I welcome all comments and suggestions, and appreciate the feedback and interest you guys give to the things I am doing.

While dealing with the first few lines of /etc/ld.so.conf would do, the ideal thing is to determine if the library path is listed above /usr/lib.  Anything that is listed under that is created by loading the uci and is then removed by unloading the uci.  (I think that unloading the uci removes the entries, but we are not dealing with stuff created by the uci). That is a bit of complexity, for me at least, but I will study up on it that will be the goal.  It would then be bulletproof in the case of other extensions that may in the future do the same thing.  It will take some learning on my part, but it will be a good experience.

Up to you entirely. BTW a lot people seem to get a bit touchy about their scripts esp. to begin with - perfectly normal.

I'll have to re-read your post later (post coffee).  Sing out if you need anything.

Dear Jason W!

I'm using your extension now and I think it's great! I have added 38+ MB of truetype fonts to home/dsl/.fonts and added it to my remaster. And it really is a joy using Firefox (the most recent version) and also Thunderbird in my own language (swedish). I have posted a hint about this in the Remaster HOWTO found in Other help topics so others can take advantage of theese new possibilities. Thanks for sharing your extension!

Have fun and keep up your fine work,
meo

Hi again Jason W!

The extension that I was referring to is bittorrent-gui.dsl, which does load but when I try to start it from the menu nothing happens. Not even the cpu-meter reacts in the torsmo monitor.

Have fun and keep up your good work for the DSL-community,
meo

EDIT PS This extension doesn't work at all in DSL 4.3 and I am running DSL 3.3 which I have remastered heavily (the KNOPPIX file is three times bigger than the original but it is solid as a rock). What I mean is that it might be something else than your extension that affects the bittorrent-gui.dsl adversely. DS
