I need to run any word processor that is compatible with ms-word documents. In my pc where I have DSL (Pentium 166, 32 MB RAM, DSL HD installed) OpenOffice runs too slow.
I tried the abiword version from the DSL repository (Abiword 2.0.1) but that version doesn't seem to open my word documents at all... a lot of extrange characters appears...

Does anybody knows how to install a newer version of abiword? Or any other word processor capable to read and write documents in ms-word format?

Regards from Argentina

There IS a newer version of abiword available as .dsl. It is version 2.2.7.
You 'll need updated gtk. See the readme for further information.

Thanks for the help!
I've tried abiword version 2.2.7, but a weird problem is going on... When I open any document created with ms-word a lot of "??" symbols appears.
I didn't experience that problem when I open the same file with the latest abiword version for win.
Should I need a newer version of Abiword for DSL? Or might be any install problem with the 2.2.7 version? (I installed the gtk2 for abiword).

Thanks in advance

Also I write from Argentina. That problem was reported several times before:

Abiprobs, utf8/iso-8859-1

Abiword, can't handle documents in ".doc" format

An unrelated question:
Have you problems using DSL with spanish keyboards?
Many people have problems with spanish, italian and deutsch keyboards.
