and I knew that AFTER I slept on it!  But anyway despite my linux ingnorance in general... I manage to make my 200 MHz Fujitsu with 96 meg hum along again; W2K is still also on it, but unless I have time to make a sandwich, I don't have time to wait for it to boot or open apps.  DSL just seems to habit a minimal amount of drive space and memory for apps.  It seriously is a great distro for linux.  I do wish there was a macromedia flash replacement app.  Its absence does cause issue in web pages.  "Installing" it does not seem to work in frugal for me.

Cool! I think DSL is the best choice for your laptop. :;):
How many MB are you using for swap? Are you using Backup/Restore? ???

I use a 128 MB swap and I do a hd restore.  I keep most of my apps from loading in my DSL and just put them in an optional folder.  I do like the UCI apps... like opera because they are mounted rather than loaded.  They actually allow my machine to run faster.  I don't have enough ram, nor can I upgrade more in the laptop.  The max is 96 so I can't do a toram.  I hope there is a bigger concentration of making more UCI apps because of this:-)

The DSL frugal is a great travel tip if using WIFI, as it just can't get "infected."  This is why I resurrected the old beast>  Now I use it for everyday browsing even in my own home.  Using a Proxim RangeLAN wifi card.

Peace,
B

DSL-2.X added hack for extending ramdisk to use swap.
You may try to use 256MB or 512MB swap, if you have some more space in your HDD.
You may have a better performance. :D

If I used a bigger swap... would my dsl 2.3 automatically just adapt to a "toram" cheatcode?  I have a frugal grub install so how would I go about putting having it load with putting DSL to ram.  Would I need to "reinstall" DSL, or can I add a line to grubs menu.lst?
