Well, the basic method of looping with xwd, converting to png, and using mencoder works, I've used it..
xvidcap is a similar tool, but it uses ffmpeg. recordmydesktop encodes only into .ogg as Theora and Vorbis (it captures sound too).
Look out for youtube's really low video quality though. If you have a big resolution, the vid youtube converts it into might not be watchable..
