I was no sure where to put this request, since I have 2 issues one deals with the pcmcia/wireless card and the other deals with a ead only issue after installing to a USB key; or if booting from CD. I have a wireless pcmcia USR5410 network card. After booting from the CD, it is like the pcmcia card is not detected at all. I think the pcmcia slot is detected, becuase if I eject the wireless card the system will beep. I went to the USR support website, which directs me to linuxant. From here I downloaded the driver, dldrinstall.run. When running this from xterminal, it loads a browser, which requires root access (I had to set a root password to get this to work). It attempts to install something, but I get access denied. I assumed this is because the CD would be seen as read only. So I decided to install to my 256 USB Key. I followed the directions in both threads First USB install thread and at Second USB install thread. Since my laptop does not support USB booting (Dell Inspiron 2650) I used the bootusb image and created an image to boot from the Key. When trying both of these install methods, the file system still seems to be read only, as I still can not install the driver. I noticed after booting, the contents of the USB are in /cdrom, I would think the contents would either be at /dev/sda1 or /dev/hda1. I have also used the dsl tora command to see if everything was in ramdisk, I would still get the read error, which I do. Is there anyway to resolve the read only so I can install the wireless cards drivers? I would really like to get my wireless adapter working,as this is the only reason I have not made a complete switch to DSL. Any help is really appreciated.
Let me know what additional information you need and I will post.
