Asus Eee PC 1001PX starts X only in safe video mode; Ventoy works

Yeah, I think I can do that. Look for it in RC3.

Yay. I can confirm that RC3 boots to X with the correct resolution by default. This is a big improvement for DSL on my Eee PC.

Great! It wouldn't have happened without your feedback.

Yesterday I found my old ASUS EEE PC 901 in the garage. So I copied dsl-2024.rc7.iso on a Ventoy stick and tried to install it on the EEE PC.

Booting DSL with the default xorg=safe in the GRUB2 command line allows to install DSL on the little machine, but the 800x600 display is not usable. So I tried a new install from the Ventoy stick with xorg=fbdev, but then I ended up with a black screen.

By the way: Ventoy uses the 1024x600 display almost correctly. (The language setting menu point is written over annother menu point. But the L works neverthelss (for selecting German).)

It's not a terrible issue, because I am just playing. But in this forum I didn't find any mentioning of the EEE PC 901. So I just added this report to this thread.

Missed this somehow.

What happens if you boot safe to 800x600 and then try to adjust the display res in arandr?

Control Center -> Session -> Set Screen Res (ArandR)
and then choose Output -> Default -> Resolution (to see what's available)

?

Otherwise, please get us the output of

Code:
inxi -zv7

Idea 2: at grub try vga=ask and then see what modes are available. Choose something you know it runs and enter the code for that. If X cannot support that mode after the initial startup, let us know.

We need to figure out if this is driver, firmware, configuration or something missing.

Look also upstream at at the antiX forum. I know people have the atom 270 boxes running antiX so we may need you to test -base or -full of antiX. Brings up idea 3 (which should've been idea 0):

It's a HD install, right--so fire-up 800x600 or whatever it runs and do the DSL File Restore if you haven't. That'll get you more firmware.

If, OTOH, antiX -base or -full (23.2 runit, BTW) behave the same, that will tell us much as well.
