Personally, that is my reaction to the "Start" button idea inherited from Win95, etc. - why should I have to move my mouse pointer to the corner of the screen, just to access a menu item? At least with the "right mouse button anywhere" option, I can bring up the menu where I want it, not where the MS 'model' says I should.
Still, it's down to personal taste. I wouldn't say that the MS Windows interface model is "wrong"; just that I prefer another way of doing things when I have the choice. And at least Linux gives you that choice...
