I intalled DSL to a partition on my hard drive. Everything works ok as far as booting DSL but I need to boot windows I tried a boot sequence using the command prompt that I got of the wiki. That sequence was "title windows root (hd0,1) chainloader +1 make active boot" when I do that it knows that there is a disk there but it won't boot it says that it is an unrecognized format. So what should I do to boot windows 2000 pro?

you need to post a copy of /boot/grub/menu.lst and your harddrive configuration first.

title Windows 2000
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1
makeactive

I got that from a google search on "grub boot windows 2000"
Is makeactive one word in yours?  Oh and make sure where you are trying to boot from - hda1 is hd0,0 - so you're trying to boot from hda2
