This is the problem, I think. Run xrandr and choose as low a resolution as possible. Then run xrandr --mode 800x600 (for example) to set it.
It doesn't matter that the partitions aren't in order. It doesn't make much sense to have an extended partition with only one logical partition in it, but it's not a problem.
